Apple Watch Ultra 2 Review: The Best Smartwatch Money Can Buy
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 raises the bar for smartwatches with brighter display, dual-frequency GPS, and class-leading battery life. Our full review.
📑 Table of Contents
Apple's second-generation Ultra refines what was already the best premium smartwatch on the market. With a brighter 3,000-nit display, dual-frequency GPS, and the S9 chip, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is everything iPhone users could want — and more than most need.
Display
The 49mm titanium case houses a 1.92" Always-On Retina display that hits 3,000 nits — brighter than any phone. It is genuinely readable in direct sunlight. The Modular Ultra watch face exclusive to this model packs in maximum information without feeling cluttered.
Battery Life
Apple claims 36 hours regular use, 72 hours in Low Power Mode. In real-world testing — including a full day with GPS workout and always-on display — I averaged 30–32 hours per charge. Better than any previous Apple Watch, though still short of Garmin's multi-day champions.
Health & Fitness
The S9 chip enables Double Tap (pinch thumb and index finger to interact without touching the screen) — genuinely useful. The temperature sensor enables retrospective ovulation tracking. ECG, blood oxygen, fall detection, crash detection — all present, all accurate.
GPS & Outdoor Use
Dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS is dramatically more accurate than single-frequency competitors, especially in cities with tall buildings. The 86dB siren and customisable Action button make it a serious adventure tool, not just a marketing pose.
The watchOS Ecosystem
This is the killer feature. The App Store has tens of thousands of apps, Apple Pay just works, AirPods auto-connect, and Find My is a lifesaver. No other smartwatch ecosystem comes close.
Verdict
If you use an iPhone, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the best smartwatch you can buy. If you don't, it's not even compatible. For Android users, look at Garmin or Samsung.
