Google Pixel Watch 2 Review: Finally a Worthy Wear OS Flagship
The Google Pixel Watch 2 fixes the original's biggest flaws: battery life and performance. It is now the smartwatch Android users have been waiting for.
📑 Table of Contents
The original Pixel Watch was beautiful but flawed, chunky bezels, weak battery, sluggish performance. The Pixel Watch 2 addresses every major complaint while preserving the elegant circular design. For Android users, this is finally the Apple Watch alternative we've been waiting for.
Hardware Refinements
The 41mm aluminium case is identical in size to its predecessor but lighter (31g vs 36g). The redesigned crown is more tactile, the haptics are notably improved, and the new Qualcomm 5100 chipset is dramatically more responsive than the old Exynos.
Battery Life: Finally Acceptable
Battery jumps from 24 hours to a claimed 24 hours with always-on display enabled, and in practice, this is real. I consistently got 27, 30 hours including a workout. Charging is also faster: 0, 100% in 75 minutes.
Fitbit Integration
The Pixel Watch 2 uses three new sensors borrowed from Fitbit Sense 2: skin temperature, continuous EDA (stress), and a more accurate heart rate sensor. The Fitbit ecosystem is the deepest health-tracking on Wear OS.
Wear OS 4
The software is genuinely polished. Google Wallet, Maps, Assistant, and Calendar all work flawlessly. The Tile system is intuitive. Third-party app support is growing, Spotify offline, Strava, WhatsApp all present.
Limitations
The display, while crisp, is smaller than the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and only one size option exists. No second-generation Pixel Watch Sport variant, and the proprietary band system limits aftermarket strap choices.
Verdict
The Pixel Watch 2 is the best Wear OS watch you can buy and the right choice for Pixel/Android users. It still trails the Apple Watch in app ecosystem depth, but the gap is narrower than ever.
