Who Is Behind Lorier?
Lorier was founded in 2017 by Lorenzo and Lauren Ortega, a husband-and-wife team based in New York City. The brand says it draws on the mid-20th century, when watches were "everyday instruments rather than status symbols", and it describes three guiding principles: be exceptional in design, put performance over prestige, and make watches to be worn.
That philosophy shows in the sizes. Where many modern sports watches are 41mm or more, Lorier's range sits at 36mm to 39mm.
The Current Range
In September 2026, Lorier's official store listed four watches:
- Neptune ($699). The brand's take on a golden-age dive watch, with a 39mm case (37mm at the bezel), 200m of water resistance and the Miyota 9039 automatic. Lorier says it now has a sapphire crystal and a sapphire bezel. Earlier versions of the Neptune used a domed acrylic crystal, so check which series you are buying if you shop second-hand.
- Falcon ($699). A 36mm field watch with a classic 3-6-9 dial, faceted broad-arrow hands, a sapphire crystal, 100m of water resistance and the Miyota 9039. Lorier argues that 36mm is the ideal size for a fixed-bezel watch.
- Astra ($699). A 36mm "elevated daily" watch with 100m of water resistance, the Miyota 9039 and a sapphire crystal.
- Hyperion ($799). A 39mm GMT (37mm at the bezel) with a bidirectional 24-click sapphire bezel, 100m of water resistance and the Miyota 9075, which lets you jump the local hour hand on its own, the layout often called a "true" or "flyer" GMT.
Lorier used to be known for launching at around $400. The current prices of $699 to $799 reflect upgrades such as sapphire crystals and bezels, and put the brand in more competitive territory.
About the Movements
The Miyota 9039 is a no-date version of Miyota's 9000 series automatic, a slimmer and higher-beat movement than the entry-level Miyota 8000 series. It is widely used by microbrands because it is reliable and easy to service. The Miyota 9075 in the Hyperion is one of the few affordable movements with a true GMT function. Neither movement is decorated, and the 9000 series has an audible rotor that some owners notice.
Warranty, Returns and Shipping
Lorier's warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal use for 12 months from delivery, which is shorter than the two years some rivals offer. Returns must be started within 14 days of delivery and arrive back within 21 days, in new, unworn condition with the plastic wrap intact. Lorier asks buyers not to remove the wrap from the bracelet when trying the watch on, and says signs of wear may lead to a rejected return or a restocking fee. US orders over $50 ship free. International orders ship by DHL Express and cost $15 under $499, with VAT and import fees collected at checkout for most countries.
Strengths
- Compact sizes that suit small and medium wrists and look right on a vintage-style watch.
- Sapphire crystals across the current range, and a sapphire bezel on the Neptune.
- A true GMT at $799 in the Hyperion.
- A clear design identity rather than a copy of a famous model.
Weaknesses
- Short warranty. Twelve months is at the low end for mechanical watches.
- Strict returns. The watch must be unworn with its wrap intact, so you cannot really wear it before deciding.
- Higher prices than before, which puts Lorier up against larger microbrands and the mid-range models of established brands.
- Plain movements with some rotor noise.
Who Lorier Suits
Lorier makes sense for someone with a small or medium wrist who wants a vintage-styled everyday watch from an independent brand. If you are unsure whether 36mm is too small for you, try our watch size calculator, and read our guide to what a field watch is if the Falcon appeals.
The Bottom Line
Lorier offers thoughtfully designed, compact watches with sapphire crystals and reliable Miyota movements, and a genuine GMT in the Hyperion. The trade-offs are a one-year warranty, strict return conditions and prices that have risen well above the brand's early days. If the mid-century look and small sizes appeal to you, it is a characterful choice. Just try the watch on carefully before you remove any protective film.
How we researched this: we did not handle a Lorier watch for this article. It is based on Lorier's official store, product descriptions, store policies and refund policy, checked on 24 September 2026.
