Best Rolex Submariner Alternatives Under $500 in 2026

The Rolex Submariner now lists at $10,050 without a date and $11,350 with one, and authorised dealers still have waiting lists. Its basic design, though, is shared by hundreds of cheaper dive watches: a black dial with large luminous markers, a rotating timing bezel and a steel bracelet. This guide covers the best of them that you can buy new for under $500 in late 2026.

Several watches that used to top lists like this are no longer made. The Seiko SKX007 was discontinued in 2019 and the Seiko SNK807 (a field watch, not a diver) has largely disappeared from retailers, so both are now mostly found used. The Timex Q Reissue, sometimes listed as a "dive watch", is rated to just 50m and Timex says it is not suitable for snorkelling. We have not tested these watches ourselves. Specifications come from the brands and retailers, and prices are typical US prices at the time of writing unless noted.

A Note on Homages

Some watches copy the Submariner closely, others only share the general layout. Homage watches with their own branding are sold openly by mainstream retailers. A watch sold with Rolex's name or crown logo at a low price is a counterfeit. Every watch here carries its own brand on the dial.

1. Casio Duro MDV106: The Diver

The Duro has 200m water resistance, a screw-down crown and a rotating bezel for about $45. It runs on quartz, so it keeps better time than any automatic here, and its resin strap is easy to live with in water. The 44.2mm case is larger than a Submariner's 41mm.

Trade-offs: the magnifier over the date is large, and the bezel action is loose compared with more expensive watches. Mineral glass scratches more easily than sapphire.

2. Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB: The Closest Look

The 8926OB is one of the best-known Submariner look-alikes. It uses the same layout in a 40mm case about 13mm thick, with 200m water resistance and the Seiko-made NH35 automatic, which can be hand wound and stops the seconds hand for setting.

Trade-offs: prices swing a lot between retailers, and there is a 43mm version (8926OBXL) sold under a similar name, so check the reference. The finishing and bracelet are basic.

Best for: The Submariner look on the smallest budget with an automatic movement.

3. Citizen Promaster Dive BN0150: No Maintenance

The BN0150 is certified to ISO 6425, the international standard for dive watches, and is rated to 200m. Its Eco-Drive movement is charged by light, so it never needs a battery change in normal use. It is less of a Submariner copy than the others, with its own case and dial style.

Trade-offs: the 44mm case is large for slim wrists, and it is usually sold on a rubber strap.

4. Seiko 5 Sports SRPD: The SKX Successor

When Seiko discontinued the SKX007, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD took over its case shape. It has a 42.5mm case, 13.4mm thick, with a short 46mm lug-to-lug length, and the 4R36 automatic, which adds hand winding over the SKX's old movement. It comes in dozens of colours.

Trade-offs: unlike the SKX, it is not a certified dive watch. The crown does not screw down and water resistance is 100m, fine for swimming but not diving.

5. Islander: Sapphire for Under 0

Islander is the house brand of the US retailer Long Island Watch. Its dive watches use the NH35 automatic, sapphire crystal and 200m water resistance, at around $299. The Bayport is 40mm across and 13.5mm thick, close to a Submariner's proportions, while the Northport is 42mm.

Trade-offs: specific Islander references and colours often sell out. One reviewer found the NH35 in their test watch ran consistently fast, which is common for this movement.

Best for: Sapphire crystal and a refined case at the price of a Seiko 5.

6. Orient Kamasu: The Best Specification

The Kamasu combines a sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, a screw-down crown and Orient's own F6922 automatic in a 41.8mm case, 12.8mm thick. Reviewers commonly rate it as the strongest overall package among affordable mechanical divers.

Trade-offs: list prices vary a lot between retailers, though it is often discounted below $375. Accuracy is typically quoted at around +10 to +15 seconds a day.

7. Tissot Seastar 1000 Quartz 40mm: The Swiss Option

The Seastar 1000 Quartz is a Swiss dive watch with 300m water resistance, sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown and a unidirectional bezel in a 40mm case, close to the Submariner's size.

Trade-offs: it sits at the top of this budget. Tissot lists it at €495 in Germany and UK retailers at about £425, and the US price can be close to or slightly above $500 depending on dial and bracelet, so check before you buy.

Best for: A Swiss-made diver with the highest water resistance here.

For most buyers the Orient Kamasu is the best Submariner alternative under $500, with sapphire, 200m and an in-house automatic.
